If you have always been attracted by the ‘experimental’ in the arts and are looking to explore deeper, then consider joining Arraymusic’s Board of Directors.
Our mission is to ‘Ignite and sustain a passion for the contemporary Canadian musical arts within an international, interdisciplinary context’. Since 1972 Array has championed Canadian composers who have gone on to win international recognition, including Linda Catlin Smith, Martin Arnold, Marc Sabat, Cassandra Miller, and many others.
Today’s Array produces, presents, and supports work on the cutting edges of contemporary music and sound art practice through:
- A program of our own Array Ensemble concerts
- An Array Presents series of artists who share our vision
- Curated series of sound art (Situated Sounds), improvisation (Audiopollination), and multi-disciplinary sound exploration (Interstitial Space).
Our Creative Music Hub utilizes the 1,100 sq. ft. Array Space at 155 Walnut Avenue in the West Queen West neighbourhood to foster a thriving contemporary music and performance art scene, which includes incubating new talent through our Array Resident Artists Incubator/ARAI program. It is one of the few remaining downtown spaces that remains affordable and accessible to music artists.
As part of our Equity Action Plan, we are looking for Board members who can help Arraymusic continue to expand the community of artists we present and the communities we support through our Array Space. We also welcome additional skills in fundraising and finance.
Arraymusic’s board is primarily a ‘governance’ board that meets bi-monthly (6 times per year) for 2 hours. From time to time, directors take on projects to advance our mission that match their interests and skills, in support of our Executive Director Sandra Bell and our Artistic Director David Schotzko.
The current 8-member Array board includes artists, academics, and experimental music enthusiasts with expertise in marketing, technology, film and law. As a registered charity, Arraymusic cannot compensate board members for their board work – this is a volunteer position.
Array is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, equitable environment where all board members, staff, volunteers, and members can feel respected and valued regardless of gender, age, race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation or identity, disability, and education.
If being part of the future of music in Canada intrigues and excites you, please get in touch with our board chair Mark Wilson at [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you!
