Salon d’exposition is a concert series devoted to intimate acoustic encounters and salons exploring instruments as companions to our lives, histories, and cultures.
Each month, on the final Sunday afternoon, a matinee duet featuring Afraaz Adam Mulji and an invited guest musician will take place at Arraymusic’s Array Space in Toronto.
Performances will remain entirely unamplified. Audiences and performers alike are invited to sit on the ground in a spirit of closeness and attentiveness, except in the case of instruments such as the harpsichord or piano that require traditional seating.
The series seeks to foster encounters between esoteric, traditional, and experimental musical practices, placing them in new and hybrid contexts while reflecting the evolving sonic landscapes of 21st-century Toronto — a profoundly cosmopolitan city shaped by layered histories, migrations, and listening cultures.
Through conversation, resonance, and shared presence, Salon d’exposition offers music not as spectacle, but as gathering: an acoustic commons grounded in intimacy, curiosity, and exchange.
Afraaz Adam Alnoor Mulji
Afraaz Adam Mulji is a cultural synthesist, polymath, composer, poet, and founder of L’Académie di Polimathia. His work explores the intersections of music, culture, philosophy, cognition, and the systems through which human meaning is created and transmitted. He approaches art as both a mode of inquiry and a form of cultural stewardship, moving freely between disciplines while seeking deeper unities among them. His practice is distinguished by an interest in sonic cultures, intellectual synthesis, enlightened patronage, and the cultivation of enduring institutions. At the centre of his work is a simple ambition: to build a lasting cathedral of meaning through art, thought, and cultural imagination.
Ali Rajan
Ali Rajan is an instrumentalist who plays the rubab ( ر†با†ب†), exploring sound through musical
heritage and contemporary expression. Born and raised in Toronto, he became inspired to play the rubab in the Northern Areas of Pakistan. Ali was nominated to represent Canada at the Global Encounters Festival 2025. He now collaborates with world-renowned artists, and his work continues to be featured in events such as The Living Sea — Fragile Beauty exhibition’s Canadian debut.
