Curatorial Statement

Enter Duo Cichorium’s Playscape Emporium, a six-part series built around storytelling through cross-disciplinary collaboration. Each event in the series will feature a distinct artistic medium, blending music, dance, theater, visual art, poetry, puppetry, and video games. Duo Cichorium and their guest artists will craft unique narratives that blend their creative styles, resulting in unpredictable and engaging performances.

ARCADE-PALOOZA is a concert entirely driven by playfulness, blending gaming, music, and audience participation. The first half will feature Toronto ensemble Render File, improvising to two videos games (Trash Panda and Trail Mix). Next Duo Cichorium will join for their interactive work, 0 Damage Any % Reverse Glitch Speed Run, inviting 4 audience members to play games of Super Smash Bros. Melee, directly translating button input from the audience performers into musical parameters. After intermission, the duo premieres their newest long form multimedia work The Sylvan Legacy. In this piece, audience members will use their smart devices to collectively control musical, visual, and narrative elements of this high fantasy choose-your-own-adventure work. Audience members will be able to choose character traits, decide which paths to travel, and determine how our heroes will respond in times of conflict.
